About SolarLayout
What is SolarLayout?+
SolarLayout is a web application that automates utility-scale fixed-tilt PV plant layout design. Upload a KMZ boundary, configure parameters, and generate a complete layout with table placement, cable routing, and energy yield — all in your browser.
What file format do I need?+
KMZ (Google Earth). Your site boundary must be drawn as polygons. Exclusion zones for obstacles are also read from the KMZ.
Do I need to install anything?+
No. SolarLayout runs entirely in your browser — there is nothing to download or install. Sign in and start generating layouts.
Where do the calculations run?+
Layouts are generated in the cloud and streamed back to your browser, so even large plants do not tie up your machine. You need an internet connection while a layout is generating.
Plans & access
What's the difference between the three plans?+
Basic: boundary import, MMS table & inverter placement, and KMZ/DXF/PDF export. Pro: adds lightning arrester (LA) placement, cable length & quantity, and cable trench details. Pro Plus: adds yearly energy, monthly generation, third-party TMY analysis, and major BOM — plus optional per-project expert services.
How do I get started?+
Sign in, then subscribe to a plan from the Billing page in your dashboard. Plans are billed per workspace — monthly or annually — with per-plan area, project, and seat caps (extra seats available as an add-on). There is nothing to download.
Is there a free trial?+
Yes. Every new account starts with a Pro Plus Trial — 5 full-featured calculations, no credit card required.
Can I try before I buy?+
Yes — the Pro Plus Trial gives you 5 full-featured calculations to run the complete workflow end to end.
Usage & limits
Are there usage limits?+
The site-area cap is per project — each project's site can be up to 200 acres on Basic, 1,000 on Pro, or 10,000 on Pro Plus (SolarLayout is certified up to 10,000 acres). You can keep multiple projects, up to an active-projects cap (10 / 30 / 100), and each plan includes seats (1 / 3 / 5). Delete projects you no longer need to free up room, or move to a higher plan. Layout generation runs are unlimited.
How many users can I add to a workspace?+
Each plan includes seats — 1 on Basic, 3 on Pro, 5 on Pro Plus. Need more? Add seats anytime at $50 per seat / month on annual billing, or $65 per seat / month on monthly billing.
Which plan includes energy yield?+
Energy output is Pro Plus only — yearly energy, monthly generation, and third-party TMY analysis. Basic and Pro cover layout and cabling.
Can I get expert engineering help?+
Yes. Pro Plus offers per-project expert services — detailed design review & consultancy, detailed engineering, and grading & levelling estimation. Pricing is per project; reach out from the Contact page.
Is my plan tied to one machine?+
No. Your plan is tied to your account (email), so you can sign in and use it from any browser.
Payments
How do I purchase?+
Sign in and subscribe to a plan from the Billing page in your dashboard — monthly or annual. Checkout is handled securely by Stripe.
What payment methods?+
We accept major credit and debit cards via Stripe.
Will I receive a receipt?+
Yes, a confirmation email is sent after purchase.
